Background

Nicholson, in joint venture with Moretrench, installed 823 micropiles for a $127 million bridge replacement project. The micropiles were 12 ¾ inches in diameter and 70 feet in length. The project also included some soldier pile and lagging work, 35 tiebacks, and dewatering. The bridge is used by 38,000 vehicles each day. Dubbed the agency’s first segmental concrete box girder, the bridge was designed to please the community by giving it the type of bridge desired and by incorporating aesthetic values including haunched girders, longer span lengths and uniquely shaped pier columns.
