Nicholson provided ground improvement for the construction of a new wastewater treatment plant in Roberts, ID. To mitigate liquefaction and reduce settlement, Nicholson installed 150 stone columns to a maximum depth of 24 feet using dry-bottom-feed methods. With the dry-bottom-feed method, the vibroprobe is inserted into the ground and penetrates to the target depth under its own weight and compressed air jetting.
The stone columns were installed using a Vibro Stitcher, which is a vibroprobe mounted on a conventional excavator. The Stitcher system offers flexibility when working on busy, congested sites and is less expensive to mobilize compared to a crane-mounted vibroprobe.
