Background

For the rehabilitation of this earth dam, a diaphragm cutoff wall was constructed through the center of the dam. The diaphragm wall was installed to depths reaching approximately 400 feet, a record depth in the United States at the time. The diaphragm wall, which consisted of 55 panels, was constructed with a Hydrofraise due to the strict specifications for depth, precision, and quality control. The project also included a preliminary grouting program to fill cracks and voids in the dam before the cutoff could be constructed.
